Fact #128980
When:
Short story:
Josh Rouse releases his second LP, Home, on Slow River Records in the USA.
Full article:
Rouse is one of those blue chip singer-songwriter types so beloved of national broadsheet newspaper critics, with a wistfully keening voice and a talent for knocking out tuneful angst-filled cameos, brimming with a sense of life's little ironies. Unfortunately, it's also the kind of album that, when you put it on, it drifts by pleasantly without ever engaging your attention. Then if, as I did, you put it on again and try to concentrate harder, the same thing happens again. It evades you, skulks in the corners of the room, hides behind the sofa and peeps out raffishly once in a while, but never really connects. Being a determined sort of cuss, convinced that I must be missing something, I put it on again, only to find myself wondering if there's any Corn Flakes left through in the kitchen. Two solid hours wasted, I quit. It's dull.
