When:

Short story:

During Tom Jones' run of gigs at The Flamingo Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Elvis Presley attends the show and leads a standing ovation for Jones. It is also during this set of shows that women begin throwing their bras and panties at Jones during his performance - a stunt set up by his PR man Jay Bernstein.

Jay Bernstein (publicist) : I chose the ones (female fans) who seemed extroverted and hungry for a laugh. It wasn’t difficult to persuade the hotel to give me a couple dozen bogus keys with the Flamingo logo on them and I bought several pairs of silk underwear.

B.B. King : I seen them throw their panties up at Tom Jones . . .believe me, it's the truth, they did; they did it in Las Vegas. Bras and panties up there on the stage.
