Fact #121728

When:

Short story:

Eminem drops his federal copyright law infringement case against The Source magazine.

Full article:

Donald David (lawyer for Eminem) : There is nothing left to win. The judge already decided we have the copyright, and he awarded us $131,000 in sanctions. So the case has no purpose anymore.
David Mays (publisher, The Source) : They want this withdrawal so they can avoid the public embarrassment of having Eminem on trial in New York.

Their goal with the lawsuit, of course, has been to suppress a lot of the very bigoted and racist and offensive material that Eminem recorded when he was about 20 or 21 years-old, not 16, which has been commonly reported.

Basically, a lot of the truth behind this is gonna come out to people. In addition to the fact of his age that he lied about, he's lied about the story that he had a, quote, 'African American girlfriend' who broke up with him, which is why he wrote one of the songs, so he said. That's a lie.
