A special benefit concert is held at The Theatre Royal, Glasgow, Scotland, UK, Europe, for the surviving members of London-based jazz group The Southern Syncopated Orchestra. Tragedy had struck the band when the ship in which they were sailing from Glasgow to Derry was involved in a collision which killed eight members of the group. Survivors included Sidney Bechet, Evelyn Dove and Cyril Blake, all of whom went on to find success in their own rights.
