Andy MacGill (fan) : We scrambled to our seats just in time as the lights dimmed. A concert that began on time - good start! The band wandered on stage and started their first number. I remember thinking, ‘This is it, after all these years'.

Bobby ambled on stage from behind the drums. He looked great. He picked up his electric guitar and played Love Her With Feeling with feeling. The backing band was shit-hot and tight as hell and got better as the concert progressed.

A new version of Tambourine Man followed and it was stunning. It all came together for me at that point. An ecstatic tingle rippled up my spine and continued to do so regularly for the next two and a half hours. Bobby's new showbiz image is nowhere near as offensive in person as it sounded in the music press - in fact it suited him well.

Unlike Bowie or Jagger who manufactured their glamourous images to elevate them above lesser mortals, Dylan's adoption of a rock star persona achieves exactly the opposite. After his years of detatched aloofness, he now seems more human and approachable.

Carol White (fan) : The best concert I’ve been to for a long time. I adore him - I want to hug him, with his bandy legs and waif face… He means so much to so many people of my generation, yet he managed to play a concert where we sat up and listened as if for the first time.

Tom Ferguson (fan) : The old fart acquitted himself admirably … the entire evening was so fresh, it made me wonder just how long Dylan can go on.
