Neal Kay (deejay, Heavy Metal Soundhouse : Paul Samson blamed me for Bruce Dickinson leaving and joining Maiden. Steve Harris had asked me what I thought of Bruce, and I said, "I think the bloke's an animal, but he's in the wrong band."
So I was about to go and play a gig at The Green Man in Leightonstone, when Steve rang me and asked me to get Bruce to come to my gig, and tell him to ring the Maiden office, because they wanted to talk to him. So I did that, and he made the call, and did a bit of an audition, but I think they'd already decided they wanted him.
