Mickie Most (producer) : They had a persistent manager who kept calling me, saying he had a group called Herman's Hermits and would I come and see them? I said I would when I had a chance, and he sent me a picture postcard of them and I saw Peter Noone and I thought he looked like a young President Kennedy. "I like the look of this mob," I thought.
So I went to see them in Bolton. They were doing pretty much a mixture of pop tunes of the time, a bit of American, a bit of Twist And Shout, bits of everything really. Herman, who was really called Peter Noone, had a very thick, recordable voice, very warm, and they did nice harmonies. I thought, "Yeah, but they haven't got any tunes. I'll have to go and find some. I picked up this Goffin and King song from America, I'm Into Something Good. It was out in an American version by Earl-Jean but it was struggling around No 80. We cut our version and it went to number 1.
