Fire destroys the Coacoanut Grove nightclub in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, killing 492 people (32 more than the building's authorized capacity) and injuring hundreds more. The fire begins while young pianist and singer, Goody Goodelle, is performing on a revolving stagein the Melody Lounge downstairs. Hollywood actor Buck Jones is among those killed in the fire.
