Pete Quaife (bassist, The Kinks] : In the early days of The Kinks, I had a lot of freedom to devise my own basslines, but by this time, Ray was virtually using the rest of us as session men. The descending bassline in Sunny Afternoon, for example, was Ray's idea. Actually I play it on guitar, finger style. Bloody difficult to play, by the way. That was a lot more fun, because the bass line went all over the place, moved around a lot.
