Pete Quaife (bassist, The Kinks] : I remember trying to stay awake while we were recording Well Respected Man. It was so boring. I had no input into that song whatsoever. If I said anything I was ignored. By that point it was very frustrating. I know I'm not as good as Ray Davies, but I am a creative person and I do have ideas, some of which deserve being listened to.
Pete Townshend (The Who) : The Kinks were quintessentially English. I always think that Ray Davies should one day be Poet Laureate. He invented a new kind of poetry and a new kind of language for Pop writing that influenced me from the very, very, very beginning. I think that Dave Davies is also very underestimated.
