Full article:
Neil Warnock (booking agent) : As 1969 went on, the heavier bands started take off in The Marquee Club in Soho, and The Red Lion, Leytonstone, The Greyhound in Croydon, The Wake Arms in Epping ... we all know that this kind of music is all about the blue collar working man having a beer and a bit of sound. That's where it found its audience. I can remember Status Quo starting to make the switch from being a pop band to being a rock band, so they had turned up the amplification but they were still playing at college balls and so on, and everyone was holding their ears. They hated it because the noise was appalling, but the band wouldn't compromise. They stuck with it.
