Lalo Schifrin records the album Gillespiana, live at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, Cologne, Germany. First recorded in 1960, the work is an homage to Dizzy Gillespie in the form of a five-movement concerto.

Tiny Tim collapses and dies during a performance at a gala benefit hosted by the Women's Club of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. He had let his third wife ("Miss Sue") know before the show that he was not feeling well, but did not want to disappoint his fans. He suffers a heart attack on stage in the middle of a rendition of his hit, Tiptoe Through the Tulips and never regains consciousness. EMTs perform on-site CPR and transport him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where after repeated revival attempts, he is pronounced dead at 11:20 pm.

While playing at a gala benefit in The Woman's Club of Minneapolis, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Tiny Tim suffers his second heart attack on stage and he dies shortly after at the Hennepin County Medical Center. His remains are entombed in a mausoleum in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
