British singer-songwriter Robert Palmer dies of heart attack in Paris, France, aged 54.
Shawn Lane, guitarist, dies of a heart attack in hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, aged 40. Lane is perhaps best-remembered as guitarist of Southern Rock band Black Oak Arkansas. However, his exceptional musical skills led him on to a rather lower-profile but highly-acclaimed career in instrumental rock, jazz fusion and world music.
