D. Boon, co-founder of punk band Minutemen, is killed, aged 27, in a vehicular accident on Interstate 10 in the Arizona desert. Feeling unwell, Boon is lying down in the rear of the band's van without a seatbelt when the rear axle breaks and the van runs off the road. Boon is thrown out the back door and dies instantly from a broken neck. Boon's death brings an end to the band.
