Blues singer and guitarist Robert Johnson dies, aged 27, in a shack on the Star Of The West Plantation, Greenwood, Mississippi, USA. His death is thought to have been caused by drinking strychnine-laced whiskey during an evening with Sonny Boy Williamson I. The drink damaged Johnson's immune system, so when he caught pneumonia, he died.
