The Grand Coulee
Dam begins on the Columbia River, Washington, USA, to produce hydro-electric power and provide irrigation for the region. The dam will provide the inspiration for Woody Guthrie's 1941 song, Grand Coulee Dam, written while he was commissioned by the Bonneville Power Administration to write songs as part of a documentary film project about the dam and related projects.
