Two English surveyors, Charles Mason and
Jeremiah
Dixon, sail into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, to
conclusively map out and establish the boundaries between the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. The project will
take three years and their conclusions will result in The Mason-Dixon
Line. Their work will inspire Mark
Knopfler to write the 2000 song, Sailing To Philadelphia, sung on his album of the same name as
a duet with James
Taylor. (1763)
