jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney dies of heart failure in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. As well as pursuing his own successful solo career, he also worked with Stan Getz, Red Norvo, Woody Herman and others. His New York Times obituary calls him "one of the most gifted and influential postwar jazz guitarists in the world".
