John McEuen : A couple of years ago, I produced the Steve Martin album The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo (2009) and I put Vince Gill and Dolly Parton on one of the tracks, Pretty Flowers, and it sounded great, but when I played it for Mike Dungan, the President of Capitol Records, a great guy, he said, 'That sounds great, like a genuine old-time country song, but there's not a chance in hell that I'm gonna get it on the radio.' I said, "Why is that?" and he said, "Dolly's voice does not work on current country radio."

It's sad but true that Nashville does not understand or respect its own history. It's the same today. If you're Dolly Parton or Vince Gill, you know you're not gonna get airplay on a major country station nowadays, or ever again.
