Fact #93143

When:

Short story:

New Orleans-based pianist, composer and vocalist Lloyd Price enters the Billboard R'n'B Singles Chart in the USA with his debut single, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, on Specialty Records. It will spend seven weeks at No1 on the R'n'B chart, and features Fats Domino on piano. Lawdy Miss Clawdy was the first New Orleans r'n'b track to cross over to a white audience and find wide acceptance in rock'n'roll circles. It also inspired a mini-vogue for similarly titled name-rhyming songs including Good Golly Miss Molly by Little Richard, Skinny Minnie by Bill Haley And His Comets and Dizzy Miss Lizzy by Larry Williams.
