Darby Slick (guitarist, Great Society) : I recall us playing at the Fillmore on Halloween night, with my friend Oscar Daniels part of the band. At the end of the gig, Jerry (Slick) said, 'The Airplane's asked Grace to join them, and I've advised her to say yes.' I was surprised. Now I understand. I'd been talking about going to India, I was shooting heroin, but my ego was so giant that I wanted to be the one to break it up. So the fact that Grace broke it up pissed me off. I held it as a grudge against her for years. When we heard Grace was leaving, that was it.
