Charles G. Dawes, the only US Vice president ever to write a popular music hit, dies in Evanston, Virginia. In 1911 Dawes wrote a wordless tune, Melody In A Major, which became a popular music standard when words were added to it by Carl Sigman who re-named it It's All In the Game. The song was a major hit for Tommy Edwards in 1958, and has also been covered by The Four Tops, Van Morrison, Cliff Richard, Nat "King" Cole, Brook Benton, Elton John and Jason Donovan.
