Fact #85029
When:
Short story:
Cliff Richard records Summer Holiday at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, London, UK, but this version will remain unissued.
Full article:
Brian Bennett [composer of Summer Holiday] : That was written while we [Cliff Richard and The Shadows] were in pantomime in Stockton. I was doing a postal course I arranging and composition with the Berlee School Of Music, because I knew that I eventually wanted to get into film music.
Bruce Welch [Shadows' guitarist] came in and said they didn't actually have a song called Summer Holiday for the film and do you want to have a go? So we wrote it there and then.
It was such a simple song with a very simple lyric. It took all of twenty mnutes to put together. I was like, 'Is it done then? Can I get back to my postal course?' Its only now, when I go to an airport and see a bunch of kids and their parents singing, 'We're all going on a Summer Holiday' - that's just amazing.
