Fact #84700
When:
Short story:
Eleven Lebanese Fatah fighters land on a beach in northern Israel and hijack two buses full of passengers on the Haifa - Tel-Aviv road, shooting at passing vehicles in what will become known as the Coastal Road massacre. They kill 37 and wound 76 Israelis before being killed in a firefight with Israeli forces. In retaliation, Israel will invade Lebanon three days later. The 1984 Human League song, The Lebanon, will be inspired by the many years of ongoing violence in the region.
