Roy Orbison : I was dating this girl, and then we broke up. This must have been two or three years before I wrote the song. I went to the barbershop to get a haircut and I looked across the street and there was this girl that I had split up with. I wanted to go over and say, 'Let's forget about what happened and carry on.' But I was very stubborn.
So I got in the car and drove on down the street and got about two blocks away and said, 'Boy, you really made a mistake. You didn't play that right at all.' I would say that I had tears in my eyes - I'll go that far - but whether I was physically crying or just crying inside, is the same thing. This is what I saw: I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while. I was feeling pretty good until I saw you last night.
