Fact #81946

When:

Short story:

The Monsters Of Rock Festival with AC/DC, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Y+T, Accept and Motley Crue takes place at Donington Park, Castle Donington, Derbyshire, England, UK, Europe.

Full article:

Maurice Jones (promoter, MCP) : Donington started in 1980, but 1984 was the perfect bill, the ultimate rock show.

Crusher (Kerrang designer) : Driving up with Kerrang writer Mick Wall, we drank a bottle of Mezcal, a bottle of Old Grandad and a case of beer, so when we arrived we were totally guttered. We immediately scored two grams of coke and then had to fight with security who wouldn’t let my dog, Bullseye, in without a pass.

Maurice Jones : Van Halen set up a huge disco system backstage. It was so loud it was drowning out the live bands. Angus Young got so annoyed that, eventually, an AC/DC roadie went in and sabotaged their electrics.

Ozzy had such a good time he played on much too long. I stood at the side of the stage with his wife, Sharon, saying “Van Halen want to come on. We’ve got to get him off.” And she said “So who’s going to go out there and stop him?”

Crusher : During Van Halen’s set, someone threw a bottle and Dave Lee Roth yelled “Don’t throw no shit at me, man, because after the show you know I’m gonna fuck your girlfriend.”

Maurice Jones : Van Halen were magnificent but because Ozzie had played too long, the whole schedule started to fall behind. Our curfew was 10.30 but it was 11.29 when AC/DC finished. The authorities could have stopped us, but they let it go on and it was the best ever.
