Suggs (vocalist, Madness) : When we were rehearsing the new songs for (Madness’ second album) Absolutely, we had a blackboard with all the song titles on it. I remember doubting whether there was a single there. Then we wrote Baggy Trousers and Embarrassment. I wrote Baggy Trousers on the floor of Lee’s house in Caledonian Road.

Chris Foreman (Madness) : Baggy Trousers was an answer to Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall. It was saying that school wasn’t actually that bad. It was a great song, but I never thought it would be a hit. It didn’t have a strong chorus. I think the video helped us. Everyone was talking about it at the time... It was filmed in a school playground in Kentish Town and, of course, featured Lee flying through the air.
