Darby Slick (guitarist, The Great Society) : John's (John Carpenter, manager) real power in the band, practically speaking, was finished that night. He became nervous, almost to the point of hysteria, because he knew both the band and the club, and he didn't want anything to go wrong. I ended up walking the streets of North Beach before the show, trying to calm him down.
