Calvin Carter (A + R man, Vee-Jay Records] : The Pips record was a master acquisition from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I don't remember the guy's name, but he sold the record to us, and evidently The Pips went to New York and made a deal with Bobby Robinson (Fire/Fury Records). Apparently, the guy's paper wasn't strong enough to hold them. We didn't want to give Bobby any hassle, so we both had a version of Every Beat Of My Heart. Ours went top ten pop, though.
