When:

Short story:

Weekly UK tv show Top Of The Pops features The Nolans, The Skids, Joe Jackson, Dollar and UFO.

Full article:

Linda Nolan (The Nolans) : Top Of The Pops in those days was recorded on Thursday, so on Wednesday we'd all run to the phone when the record company would call and tell us the chart position. It was so exciting because if it was doing well, it meant we'd be on Top Of The Pops the next day. I'd been watching Top Of The Pops since I was kid so, for me, the first time we were on Top Of The Pops, seeing our name on the rundown was just the greatest thing.

Bernie Nolan (The Nolans) : Pop is eternal. Something like punk was very much of its era. We were surrounded by it back then. We were spat at on Top Of The Pops by punk bands. The Skids spat right in front of us on the floor. We didn't react. We said, "Nice to meet you too." Our image was very pop, so we just worked through that and our records have lasted a lot longer on the charts than the likes of The Skids did.

Mike Baillie (The Skids) : Things like doing TOTP, meeting Elvis Costello and the like were real high points. The Nolans story is just a vicious rumour as far as I’m concerned, there was no danger of any of us doing that - one of us was supposed to have spat on their dressing room door at TOTP.
