Fact #65734
When:
Short story:
Bob Dylan pays his first visit to the folkies' meeting place, Izzy Young's Folklore Center on MacDougal St, Greenwich Village, New York City, USA.
Full article:
Jac Holzman (owner, Elektra Records) : Izzy Young's Folklore Center, a few steps above MacDougal Street, was a storefront with a rough assemblage of records, sheet music, instruments, strings, capos, and the odd-lot necessities of the urban folk singer, displayed according to Izzy's cockeyed logic … but Izzy knew all of folkdom and the Center served as Musicians' Central Station.
Izzy Young : Dylan came in, the way everyone else did, as I was the place to go. He played an autoharp, but I cannot say that I noticed him especially. He didn't look so interesting and everyone was playing all the time in my place.
Jack R. Goddard (journalist, Village Voice) : Picking up an autoharp, he began mumbling a song about some bloke named Captain Gray. People looked on in amusement as he began hopping around a bit. He was funny to watch, and anybody with half an ear could tell he had a unique style.
