Maybe it’s time I moved to Canada and started looking for bands with mysterious names. Last month it was Malajube and now I’m finding myself drawn into the strange musical landscape of Ohbijou, a Toronto-based septet built around the core of the sisters Casey and Jennifer Mecija. Musically it falls somewhere between modern folk and acoustic chamber pop but, as with all the best things, Ohbijou’s real appeal is in a bunch of lyrically thought-provoking songs that you unexpectedly find yourself singing as you go about your daily business. Magic.
