Fact #58040

When:

Short story:

An audience of 9000 attends one of the first ever outdoor popular music festivals. It is held at Herndon Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, featuring Ray Charles, Ruth Brown, B.B. King, The Drifters and bill-topper Roy Hamilton. Unfortunately, the event is marred by torrential rain. Nevertheless, local deejay Zenas Sears unofficially records the show with a single mike hung above the stage. The recording sounds so good that Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records decides to release it as a live album, under the title Ray Charles In Person.
