Fact #54987
When:
Short story:
Having been found delirious four days earlier, "in great distress, and ... in need of immediate assistance", on the streets of
Baltimore, Maryland, USA, the writer Edgar Allan
Poe dies in Washington College Hospital. The cause of his death
is never determined, but Poe's life and works will inspire numerous musical
endeavours. Quite apart from numerous
songs and concept albums based on Poe's works, he gets a
mention in I Am The Walrus [1967] by The Beatles; The 1988 song
Allan by French singer Mylene Farmer is dedicated to Poe; the 1996
song Edgar by Quebecois artist Jean Leloup is a humourous depiction
of Poe; Poe is mentioned in the 2004 song St. Jimmy by Green Day;
The 2007 song Buried Alive by Los Angeles-based Goth Rock duo
Creature Feature is about Poe. In 2011 Trevor Tanner released an
Apple iTunes, Digital 45, entitled The Ballad Of Edgar Allan Poe.
