Martin Langley : I met The Beatles in August 1965 at Heathrow when they were going to America for their third tour. I was eight years old and my father worked for TWA so my sister and I, along with two American girls, were given the job of presenting them with overnight bags.

I grew up listening to their records and we used to mime along to the songs using tennis rackets as guitars, so I was already a big fan. We had to go through a back entrance because the whole airport was full of screaming teenagers. It was the height of Beatlemania.

Just before they arrived, my 12-year old sister started fighting with one of the American girls over who would give the bag to Paul McCartney. My sister won, which was a relief because she was totally in love with him.

I had John Lennon's bag. I can't remember if John spoke to me But I Do remember it was like meeting God.

I shook hands with him and when I got home I decided I would never wash my hand again.

Alf Bicknell (Beatles chauffeur) : There's quite a funny story about Dylan. I remember being there when the boys arrived in the Warwick Hotel, my first night in New York, about two days before Shea Stadium, and all these people turned up, The Supremes, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and a guy I became very fond of Brandon DeWilde who had been the little boy in Shane, now he was in his late twenties, but several years later he was killed in a camper van.

We had the whole of the 33rd floor of the Warwick, and at three in the morning I was getting ready to go to bed and as I opened the door, there was this beautiful 19 year old redhead sitting in a chair and I says "Tough, you've picked the wrong one. I'm just the driver."

I couldn't let her meet the band, but I let her stay the night, and I slept in a chair, wasn't that gentlemanly of me? But the incredible things people used to do. They would dress up as porters or chamber maids just to get close.

I once got on the wrong side of the police cordon and I couldn't get through until Paul shouted "He's with us!" and the police pulled me through.
