Eugene Church (singer, friend) : Bobby Day was a very intelligent, smart guy and I learned a lot from him. He was also a very talented person and he helped a lot of people in this business. Bobby and I, and Jewel Akens, who did The Birds And The Bees, did a show in San Francisco and Bobby didn't feel well and came off the road and went into hospital for some tests. His wife phoned, she was crying and said that the doctor had called and it was terminal. So I went up to the hospital the next day. Bobby asked me to do a few things for him because he knew he was going to check out. He was very disappointed because he still had so many things he wanted to do, musically. He asked me to try and keep the guys together and to look out for his wife, Jackie, and I told him I would. The next day, Bobby died and Jackie asked me to sing at his funeral. There was a gospel song that I had written that was a favourite of his. Bobby Day was a great guy. God bless his memory. He was one of the last of the good guys.
