Fact #40069

When:

Short story:

Full article:

Mick Ronson (Rolling Thunder guitarist) : He used to come on one night and play real fast. Then next night he'd play the same songs real slow. Either he was doing it on purpose or... I reckon he had a bad memory... 'Cause he was all over the place some nights. He'd just wander off somewhere, expecting us to follow him. Come to think of it, he had problems knowing what key he was playing in. We'd just have to look at him all the time 'cause otherwise he'd have finished one song and be into another. There were nights when - if you weren't looking - you'd find yourself still playing when the song was over.

He really forced you to look at him, what with him being a bit shaky on his timings, key changes and all, he didn't know what he was doing half the time... Plus he never played anything the same way twice.

Rob Stoner (bassist) : For instance, Isis - we did a reggae version, we did funk versions, we did the waltzy one, we did the fast metal version. That's one tune that comes to mind but Bob was really into that... He's not doing that to be a prick. He's doing that to keep himself from getting bored... anybody who's gonna complain about that shit shouldn't be on his bus! That's the gig!
