Joey Dee : I spoke to all three record companies and I knew that expediency was of the utmost importance. We had to get the record out quickly because the phenomenon (of The Twist) was becoming so hot that I figured the first one out was going to have a hit and everybody else would fall by the wayside. Morris Levy from Roulette promised me a release within a week and, true to his word, he had it out.
It gave us quite a bit of airplay at the time. It seemed like I never walked into a house that someone didn't have a copy of the Doing The Twist At The Peppermint Lounge live album. We had three Top Ten singles from that album and the mystique about it was that these were live recordings of the Peppermint Twist. Mashed Potatoes, Shout and Ya Ya were all live, and each one of those songs made the charts.
