Samuel J. Hoffman dies aged 63 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He had been a pioneer of electronic music, a notable player of the early electronic musical instrument the theremin. He featured prominently on several science fiction movie soundtracks, and recorded three studio albums with bandleader Les Baxter, regarded as forerunners of the exotica genre. As late as 1967, he was working with Captain Beefheart.
