Fact #194248

Short story:
Warsaw, an early incarnation of Joy Division, debuts at the Electric Circus, Manchester, England, UK, Europe, supporting The Buzzcocks and Penetration.
Full article:
Richard Boon (manager, Buzzcocks) : Warsaw was booked because it was very important to have another Manchester band for a Manchester audience, because there were so few. There was a governing policy behind Buzzcocks’ dates that they would try to galvanize something – hype a scene before there was one.
Andrew Lauder (A + R man, United Artists) : I remember I had made my mind up to sign them (The Buzzcocks) even before I had seen them. What I remember most is that after the gig, I phoned a cab to take me back to my hotel because I didn’t like the thought of walking round Collyhurst at midnight.
