A reception in honour of Full article:
Judd Lander (publicist) : Dionne Warwick was in London and had just made an appearance as the guest on BBC-tv's Parkinson Show, shortly after which I received a surprise call from Parliament, one of my gals in the office shouting, "Judd I’ve got a posh one on the phone."
“Judd darling," (a real luvvy at the other end), "we hear that Ms. Warwick is in town. If possible we would love her to join a Diversity event we are having in Wembley”.
I looked at Dionne's itinerary. “I’m awfully sorry but Dionne is performing that night”. Slight pause at the other end before his reply, “I’m sure we can get around this”.
And they did. They bought out one of her gig dates to allow Dionne to attend and pick up a charitable award. Thrown in was lunch for us at Parliament with a few surprise guests and lots of champagne.
On the evening of the event I was also given the task of introducing the then Chancellor Of The Exchequer, later to become Prime Minister, Gordon Brown to Dionne and her musicians, The chuckle shot was my asking Gordon if he could reduce my VAT bill …. I think a Scottish "Noooooooh" came back!
