Short story:

Full article:

Dave Davies (guitarist, The Kinks] : Ray (Davies, The Kinks] and I heard The Kingsmen and we played that record over and over again. It was one of our favourite records, we used to play it in our r'n'b band at Muswell Hill and Northbank local club. And Ray copied a lot of his vocal style at the time from that guy. I was always trying to get Ray to sing, because I thought he had a great voice, but he was very shy, so I'd have to sing. I'd do the r'n'b things, Chuck Berry or whatever. Ray would play harp and do a little bit of Sonny Boy Williamson II mimicry - this was before we got signed.
