Fact #184513
When:
Short story:
The WDAS Soul Spectacular is staged in the Convention Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, featuring Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Wilson Pickett, Kool and the Gang, Chairmen Of The Board, The Moments, Judy Clay and The Five Stairsteps. When fighting breaks out in the audience, two girls are hospitalised with gunshot wounds, and three boys with stab wounds.
Full article:
Arnold Brodsky (reviewer, Rolling Stone) : The fighting broke out at the back of the auditorium on the ground floor. Convention Hall is a long, narrow structure, built to accommodate basketball games or hundreds of seated convention delegates on the floor, and the rear half of the ground-level seating is just not sufficiently in contact with the stage.
At first there was mainly isolated scuffling. Groups of two to four boys ran through the aisles pummelling each other. After a while, these fights subsided. But later, during a period of relative calm, a stampede began, with everyone within a radius of several yards from a certain spot running hard to get as far from that spot as possible.
Then a shot rang out.
I saw a girl being carried out of the auditorium, a victim of the shooting.
