The 1996 Sonoria Festival, a three-day event, begins in Parco Aquatica, Milan, Italy, Europe. Artists appearing on this day are the Dave Matthews Band, The Flaming Lips, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Neneh Cherry, Orbital, Babylon Zoo, Bif Naked, Blindosbarra, Bluvertigo, Casino Royale, Fluffy, Govinda, Lou X, Saturnino, Scheer, Soon, Tiamat, Tiromancino and Üstmamò.

Claudio Trotta (promoter) : For the third Sonoria Festival we had three stages, 54 acts, and we got 20,000 people, but by then I was too tired to do a fourth year, I didn’t have a sponsor, and I decided just not to do another one. And, unfortunately, Heineken started doing a festival in Italy and instead of calling me, they called my competitor, which really pissed me off. But this is the way how it works. Nevertheless, I still believe that the three Sonoria Festivals were among the best events I have ever put together. I’m still very proud of them.
I mean, why are we here? My view is that we are here to be happy and to make people happy, here to spread love, beauty, quality. This has been my life - I always try to do something that I can be proud of, and that will stay in the memory of the people.
