Short story:
When The Cure begin a North American tour at The Paramount, Seattle, Washington, USA, they have no drummer. Vince Ely of Psychedelic Furs steps into the breach and plays the next eleven dates with the band.

Robert Smith (The Cure) : Andy Anderson had to leave the band in Japan, which left us with three or four days to find a replacement drummer before the tour continued in America. We flew from Japan to California and, luckily, our bass player Phil Thornally knew Vince Ely who’d drummed in the Psychedelic Furs who Phil had produced.
So I phoned Vince up, gave him a set list of the easiest songs in our repertoire, and he spent a couple of days listening to Cure songs. But he could only do it for about five gigs, so we knew we’d have to find somebody else quite quickly.
