DJ Fontana (Presley's drummer) : We went out a few days earlier to see what was going on and watched Elvis rehearse the other parts of the show. It's a lot of work to do these shows.
They had this stage set up – it was about the size of a boxing ring. They had all of us sitting up there. When we first went there they had a set of drums sitting there too. They said, 'The drums are kind of taking up the whole stage and the lights are reflecting off the silver-plated hardware'.
They pared them down and it didn't do any good. It was ruining the camera shot. And we said, 'Well, just take 'em down.' They said, 'Well, what are you gonna do?' I said, 'Well, I'll just play on the back of a guitar case. We've done this before.'
