Phil Thornalley (bassist, The Cure) : Robert said they were looking for a bass player. I’d been a bass player since I was fourteen. I said I’d do it, thought it was a bit of a challenge. I guess my ego was titillated by being in a rock’n’roll band, not doing pub venues, but straight into something with a fanbase.
