Jim Webb (composer) : It really is about MacArthur Park. I used to meet my girlfriend in the park and have lunch with her. It's on Wilshire Boulevard, just on the edge of downtown LA. The images are of a couple picnicking under the trees, and the cake is nothing more than a real cake that was there that we were eating for lunch.
It's just about a love affair. The fact that the imagery could be construed as being psychedelic … is because that's what people were writing then.
