Frankie Ford (singer, friend of Rick Nelson) : I spent the month of November 85 touring with Rick. I used to tease him a lot of the time. Greg McDonald, his manager, would come and say ‘Why don’t you go and tease Rick a bit, he’s feeling down.’ And I’d go and aggravate him.
Greg asked my manager, Ken Keane, if I could open for him in Dallas on New Year’s Eve, but I was working. I was getting ready for the show, when Ken came in and said, ‘I’ve got to tell you this now, because I don’t want you to hear it on the news.’ And he told me that Rick was dead. I was absolutely comatose for the entire evening. I was a basket case, and they had to take care of me. I did two shows that night but I don’t remember anything about them. I don’t even remember going home.
