Johnny Marr (guitarist, The Smiths) : That wasn't untypical. We always had problems with local security staff at our gigs. We would encourage the crowd to have a good time, and to move closer to us, and these security gorillas didn't like that, because they weren't used to it. The night before it had been Aztec Camera, I think, and the crowd had been very sedate, but Morrissey incited something close to hysteria in the crowds, and these guys were just bullies. We were constantly having to rescue people from the stage.
